quotent quotable

Given the state of the "news" industry, this seems apropos.

"The public have an insatiable curiosity to know everything. Except what is worth knowing. Journalism, conscious of this, and having tradesman-like habits, supplies their demands."

Velvia 100 - Lightroom 3

I have been trying to use the Beta of Lightroom 3 in hopes that i can speed up my workflow in post processing. Im still not crazy about the noise reduction over CaptureNX, nor the rendering of highlights in peak colors. The speed, however, is a fair bit better. For a very good review of quality output between the two, see Todd Owyoung's post at ishootshows.com

And now for the fun with film...Shot on Fuji Velvia 100 with my Nikkormat EL-24mm f/2.8D-35mm f/2.0D-20mm f/2.8-180mm f/2.8D. Various forms of lighting from (1) Nikon SB800 triggered through a sync cable, a (2) LED micro panel and (3) Nikon SB900 w/ Lumiquest Softbox III.

Lighting (3) from camera left. Sun provides fill from right.

Lighting (3) camera above and left.

Apparently im spoiled by quality autofocus. Even with split prism focus assist on the Nikkormat, i still pulled my focus poorly. shame on me...out of practice. =/

just a few words from some of the all time greats.

a great compilation of interviews.

http://pixsylated.com/2010/01/photographers-on-youtube/

If you have never seen Walter Looss' or Neil Leifer's sports photos, go look them up right now. They are so far beyond "just" sports pictures, they are simply ART. Gorgeous.

When i was in Las Vegas a few years ago, i had the wonderful experience of walking into a small art gallery in the Bellagio containing a large collection of Neil Leifer's work. Needless to say, i was blown away to see such great moments captured in such grace and printed larger than life. My nose to glass...i highly recommend the experience.

Enjoy.
